It’s that time of year again, the weather starts to improve and we all start thinking about spending more time outdoors.
The Garden is looking a bit worse for wear after the winter? Don’t worry – with a little effort, you can soon have it looking amazing!
As the sun is shining brightly today, here are 6 ways to spring clean your garden:
1. Spruce up garden furniture
If your garden furniture has seen better days, then now is the time to give it a makeover! For wooden furniture, you could sand it down and apply some varnish to protect it from the weather, or maybe a good clean will work, if you have a pressure washer this will do the job or you could arrange for an exterior cleaning company to tackle this for you.
If you have rattan furniture, then you can simply give it a good brush down and maybe wash it with soapy water.
Metal furniture can also be washed down and if it’s looking a bit rusty, then you might want to give it a new coat of paint.
2. Clean up your patio
If you enjoy eating alfresco and often use your patio area for entertaining, then you probably want it clean and presentable. A good wash with a stiff broom will sometimes get your patio looking fresh but it’s also quite common for lichen and algae to settle on patio masonry. This can be harder to remove. You could hire an exterior cleaning company to give your patio a deep clean and even apply an algae solution to prevent future build-up.
3. Weed out the weeds!
Nobody likes weeds, and they can soon take over if you’re not careful! If you have worked really hard to clean up a patio area you will probably come across a few weeds as you go. Removing these by hand is a temporary fix but they will inevitably grow back if you don’t treat the problem. You might consider chemical weed removal which will leave your outside space looking fresh and tidy.
If you are going to tackle the weeds yourself make sure you wear gloves to protect your hands and if you have any plants that you want to keep, make sure you don’t accidentally weed them out too!
4. Don’t forget the house – Render and brick cleaning
If your property is rendered or made of brick, it’s bound to be affected by our great British weather, which can leave it looking a bit grubby. You might be considering a new coat of paint but it’s also important to clean the render or brickwork first. This will help the new paint to adhere properly and give your property a fresh start for spring. You could do this yourself with some elbow grease and the right products or hire a company like Fox facilities management to clean your render for you
5. Happy Hot tub
If you have a hot tub, then you’ll know that they need to be cleaned regularly to keep them safe and looking their best. Spring is the perfect time to give your hot tub a good clean, inside and out. Make sure you follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully and if in doubt, hire a professional hot tub cleaning company who will be able to clean it quickly and efficiently.
Fact: did you know, harmful bacteria can grow in a hot tub if it’s not cleaned properly? So, make sure it’s clean this spring to keep yourself and your family safe.
6. Get those gutters cleared
Gutters can become blocked with all sorts of things like leaves, twigs and even birds’ nests! It’s a good idea to get them cleaned out at least once a year, and spring is the perfect time to do it. Because gutters are at height cleaning them yourself can be tricky, especially without specialist equipment, it would make much more sense to arrange for a gutter cleaning company to help you with this.
7. Cut back trees and bushes
Now is a great time to prune any trees or bushes that might be starting to get a bit overgrown. Not only will this tidy up your garden, but it will also help to keep them healthy. If you’re not sure how to go about it, then there are plenty of books and websites that can give you some tips, or you could always hire a garden maintenance company to do it for you.
Once you’ve tackled all of the above, your garden will be looking amazing and ready for summer! You might want to add some new plants or flowers, or maybe a water feature or some outdoor lighting to really make it shine. Whatever you decide to do, enjoy your beautiful garden!
